Mozbife announces the first step in its expansion programme into North and North-Eastern Mozambique with a new site secured in Nampula at Avenida do Trabalho, No 92, Nampula. The development will include a full butchery and a distribution centre, permitting access to our premier products by both retail and wholesale customers. The site will also operate as a base for further expansion into this rapidly developing and expanding area of Mozambique.
Mozbife is currently completing a refurbishment of the site which is expected to be fully operational in January 2015. Commenting, Mr George Naude, Mozbife General Manager, said:
‘We are incredibly pleased with this new site which matches all of our requirements to start our expansion into the North-East of Mozambique. Not only does it provide an easily accessible site for retail sales, but it also provides ideal cold storage space to supply further butcheries in the Nampula, Cabo Delegado and Niassa Provinces.’
Its good to hear about this new center.
What is the capacity of the new site (how much beef can be processed and sold through the butchery and distribution center) ?
Do you have any plans for expansion into Maputo?
Thanks for your comment. The Nampula site is capable of holding up to 20 tonnes of meat at any time. It is capable of processing significantly more though, or holding meat which has been processed already at our abattoir. At present we do not have firm plans to open a site in Maputo, but are keeping options under review.
Has the Nampula butchery opened yet? and is there plans for other butcheries in the area, Nacala for instance?
Thanks for your comment.
The final stages of the Nampula site refurbishment are in progress, but have been interrupted early last week by the floods in central Mozambique and in particular the destruction of the bridge over the Licungo river at Mocuba. This bridge is the main road link between the centre and North of Mozambique. Subject to the successful deployment of a temporary military bridge at Mocuba to allow free passage of goods and people, we now expect to open the Nampula site in February 2015.
The Nampula site will be both a distribution centre and a butchery, providing a base for Mozbife’s expansion into the North and North East of Mozambique. We envisage future butcheries in key locations such as Nacala and Pemba, and various satellite butcheries in Nampula itself.
The website says the abattoir can process 4000 animals a month. How about the feedlot, how many animals can it process each month?
For exports, how much time approximately would it take after slaughter for the carcasses or boxed beef to arrive to Jeddah Islamic port?
